IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT COVID-19

Dear Parents and Staff Members:

As the school year draws near, we have received more specific questions about how someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or has symptoms while at school, will be handled. Even though much of this information is already on the F ly Like An Eagle Re-Entry Plan's  Health & Safety page, I thought it might be easier to just send you the specific documents. Our procedures need to follow the recommendations received from the State Department of Health and the guidelines established by the Door County Public Health Department.  We have been working closely in partnership with Public Health and Door County Medical Center (which oversees our school nursing program) all summer, to ensure that when it comes to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, or who are showing symptoms of the disease, all county schools have consistent processes in place. Click on the links to access the specific information referenced below:

  1. Public Health Update -

Door County Public Health Director, Susan Powers, has provided all families and staff with a  letter explaining current information about the pandemic, and how their office will be handling identified cases.

  2. Symptom Checking -

We are not requiring temperature checks before students and staff can enter the building. Instead, parents are being asked to do a simple check each day by following the  directions in Parent Square. A similar check will be done by each staff member.

  3. What the Nurse's Office Will Do -

The  process the school nurse will follow will be handled individually, according to the severity of symptoms presented by your child, and which are not normal for their usual baseline.

  4. How Will I Know What to Do if My Child Gets COVID -

A  flowchart shows how public health will work with the school nurse, and school, to determine the need for testing, period of quarantine, and how family members may be affected.

  5. How Will I Know When My Child Can Return to School -

This  document has some of the same information from above but presented in a different format for you.

Lastly, there are  Ten Things You Can Do to Prepare for Returning Back to School. In particular, some have asked for more specifics on the face covering/masking requirement. Expectations and exceptions can be found in these  Guidelines.

As staff, parents, and community, we all want to see our children back in school. It will take an effort on everyone’s part to practice the health and safety habits of wearing face coverings/masks, keeping physical distance, washing hands, and monitoring for the COVID-19 symptoms. Having your child practice these health and safety habits at home will reinforce the messages that your child will hear at school. Thank you in advance for helping us keep our students and staff as safe and healthy as possible!

Yours in Education,

Patti Vickman, Superintendent
