MAPS Growth Testing

Dear Parent,

During the next two weeks, Southern Door students in grades K-8 will take a MAP Growth online test from NWEA. Specifically, students in grades K-6 will test during the week of December 11, and students in grades 7-8 will test during the weeks of December 11 and 18. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in reading and mathematics.
MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to a student’s level of learning. If a student answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what students know and are ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about student learning, teachers are able to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics and then plan instruction accordingly.

Following the testing period at the next round of parent/teacher conferences in February, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast in order to perform as well as possible on the test. For more information about the MAP Growth test, visit: NWEA.org/Parent-Toolkit. Any other questions may be directed to your child’s principal.

Sincerely,
