About Us

Initially, the 200 square miles comprising the southern half of Door County to the city limits of Sturgeon Bay, consisted of 26 separate school districts. These districts consolidated to form the Southern Door County School District, which was established on April 5, 1960.  The high school was completed in 1963. The elementary/middle school was completed in 1974. In 1980, several new classrooms were added to the high school, including art, band, and chorus rooms. A beautiful 592-seat auditorium, 8 classrooms, a remodeled and expanded technology education area, a greenhouse, and boys & girls varsity locker rooms were added in 1991.  In 2003, a 65,634 square foot addition consisting of a new high school instructional media center, three new science labs, a new Eagle gym and fitness center, a new elementary/middle school office, sixth grade classrooms, and middle school band & chorus rooms were added. Remodeled areas included elementary music, gifted & talented, Title I, special education, high school science, and other individual programs.

Southern Door County School buildings are located on a beautiful 129 acre site at 2073 County DK, just off Highway 57, six miles north of Brussels and seven miles south of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Included on the site are numerous athletic fields, a school forest, a schoolyard garden, nature center, prairie, three Fab Lab & Innovation Centers, a one room school house, community walking trail, large playground areas, and a community auditorium.
